Harnesses Buying Guide

The first step is to decide what you need the harnesses for. Is your vehicle intended for everyday driving, track sessions or competitive FIA events?

For Everyday Driving

Harnesses approved for road use come in 3 point, 4 point, or 6 point configurations.

Most drivers opt for a 3 point or 4 point harness with road certification, featuring standard buckles the same as those found in regular production vehicles. Typically, these harnesses use 2 inch webbing and adjustable lap straps that can be tightened by pulling them up.

Popular Choices Include:

For those seeking a sportier appearance, quick-release rotary buckles paired with 4 point or 6 point FIA-certified harnesses are ideal. These harnesses are also road-legal, except for FIA models designated as ‘HANS only'.

For Track Enthusiasts

Our harnesses are perfectly suited for track days. Opting for a road or FIA-certified harness makes sense, however some people prefer particular harnesses that are not FIA approved, but are made to the same exacting standards. The only reason they are not FIA approved is because the harness manufacturer has chosen not to put the harnesses through the costly approval process.

Featured Examples:

FIA Certified Harnesses

FIA usage is categorised into three distinct types:

  1. FIA Approved Without HANS Device
  2. FIA Approved Exclusively With HANS Device
  3. Single-Seater Racing Harnesses

FIA Approved Without HANS Device

As mentioned earlier, FIA-certified harnesses that aren't specifically designed to be used with a HANS use are also road-legal. These models are ideal for both competitive racing and daily driving.

Popular Examples:

FIA Approved Exclusively With HANS Device

These harnesses are designed specifically to be used with HANS (also know as FHR) devices. They feature 2 inch (or tapered from 3 inch to 2 inch) shoulder straps to accommodate the HANS system.

Available Models:

Single-Seater Racing Harnesses

Both Willans and TRS provide FIA-approved harnesses designed specifically for single-seater race cars, available in standard and HANS-compatible versions.
